The Delta State police command has arrested a 41-year-old man, identified as Ame Edjeket, for locking up his wife Gladys in a cage for over three years.
When arrested, Edjeket insisted his wife was a witch and mentally challenged adding that she has been the one responsible for their financial misfortune in their home, in Orerokpe, Delta State.
Following series of allegations leveled against her, Edjeket said he had returned his wife who is the mother of eight to her family but they rejected her to him.
Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, who brought the case to light, said the man got his wife pregnant three times while he caged her.
He said the victim was locked up in the cage where she defecated and also urinated.
At the time of filing this report, the victim was receiving medical attention at the Orerokpe General hospital in Delta state.
