The Nigerian Bar Association after issuing a warning to review the order of the court with over 20 lawyers offering to take on the matter of the lawyer that was jailed by the Magistrate of Magistrate Court 2, Wuse Zone 6 in Abuja on Wednesday, Ibrahim Mohammed, the Magistrate immediately ordered the release of Eburu Barth that was arrested, handcuff, and imprisoned for interrupting and challenging court judgment.
It was gathered that the reversal came following the outcry and intervention of the NBA demanding to review the order of the court.
According to the statement that was released by the Secretary, Adebiyi Adetosoye, on Wednesday 23, stated that they applied to review the order of the court sentencing him to jail without a fair hearing.
They also demanded to reached out to the necessary authorities to ensure that the order of the court was reversed.
They also demanded to submit a petition against the magistrate and ensure the trend was permanently put to a final stop.
However, the branch committee on Young Lawyers Mentoring and Pupillage has been directed to come up with a work plan to address the recurring issues.
They also stated that “This incident has exposed the level of decadence in the system, particularly the attitude of some lawyers towards the court which leaves much to be desired.
They further call for the need to strengthen the relations between the Bar and Bench to curtail the reoccurrence of such matters in the future.
