LAGOS — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos on a working visit as Nigeria prepares for a modest 65th Independence Anniversary celebration on October 1.
According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, and shared on his X (formerly Twitter) platform, the President’s visit to Lagos is part of activities lined up ahead of the anniversary.
President Tinubu moved to Lagos after attending the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in the ancient city of Ibadan, Oyo State.
While in Lagos, the President is expected to hold meetings with key figures in Nigeria’s private sector as well as senior government officials. The engagements will focus on strengthening cooperation between the Federal Government and business leaders to drive economic growth.
The statement also noted that on Tuesday, September 30, President Tinubu will travel to Imo State where he is scheduled to commission projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
As part of the Independence Anniversary activities, the President will commission the remodelled National Theatre in Lagos, which has been renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, in honour of Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate.
Mr. Onanuga emphasized that the Federal Government is keeping this year’s celebration “low-key,” in line with prevailing economic realities.
President Tinubu’s working visit to Lagos, followed by his trip to Imo, is seen as a move to highlight government achievements and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to national development as the country marks its 65th year of independence.
