In a heartbreaking incident that has left the community of Masaka, Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State in shock, 38-year-old Gabriel Iliya Magaji was found dead in what appears to be a case of suicide. His body was discovered in a classroom at Crystal School, Masaka, on Monday morning, raising concerns about the mental health crisis in the area.
The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nansel Ramhan, confirmed the incident, stating that a school staff member reported finding an unidentified man hanging in one of the classrooms. Following the report, the police, led by the DPO, arrived at the scene, removed the body, and transported it to the General Hospital, Mararaba, where Magaji’s death was confirmed.
While police investigations are still ongoing, sources close to the family have hinted at a tragic personal struggle that may have led to Magaji’s death. It was alleged that Magaji had recently confronted his wife over claims of infidelity. Reports suggest that his wife admitted to having relationships with Magaji’s friends in exchange for money, which she used to care for their household, including their three children.
Although no suicide note was found, the devastating impact of the situation highlights the underlying pressures that families may face, particularly economic hardship and emotional strain.
