A lawyer, Eburu Ekwe Barth, has been arrested and bundled away into suleja prison after opposing and challenging Magistrate judgment.
The Magistrate of Court 2, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, Ibrahim Mohammed reportedly ordered the policemen at the court to arrest and handcuff the lawyer for challenging him on a summary of a case during court proceedings.
The magistrate thereafter sentenced Ekwe to two months in prison for contempt in the face of the court.
It was gathered that the incident happened yesterday March, 23 in Abuja, when the magistrate was giving judgment on an application filed by an opposing counsel when the lawyer interjected.
The interjection of the lawyer angered the magistrate and he immediately ordered his arrest and sentenced him for contempt.
According to the lawyer, the magistrate was ascribing what he never said to him in his ruling.
The lawyer questioned whether there was a conspiracy between the magistrate and the plaintiff’s lawyer.
However, the lawyer was taken to Suleja prison after appeals made by many lawyers were ignored by the judge.
