The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, arrested the immediate past governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, in Abuja.
The ex-governor was arrested at about 10 am when he arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Monday in response to the petition raised to him by the agency.
A source disclosed that the ex-governor was under investigation with the EFCC over an alleged diversion of funds during his tenure as governor of Kwara State after Bukola Sariki when he was a Commissioner of Finance to the tune of N9 billion.
According to the source, the Ex-governor was investigated for over seven hours writing statements about N9 billion that was diverted from the Kwara State account when he was the governor between 2011 and 2019, and also when he serves as a commissioner for Finance under the administration of a former governor, Bukola Saraki.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the incident that the former governor responded to the agency’s invitation but also decline further statements regarding the invitation.
