Kim Jong-un celebrates North Korea missile launch in Hollywood style

North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, dramatized the celebration of the launching of the largest-ever Intercontinental Ballistic Missile in Hollywood style.

The launching of the ICBM was announced by North Korea state media On Thursday.

Before the launch, Jong-un was seen in a video dressed in a leather jacket and sunglasses.

In the video, Jong-un was also seen in line with other military officials walking in slow motion in front of the Hwasong-17 missile before it was blown up.

In a little suspense, the video shows the camera shot switches between the two officials and the North Korean leader before he snaps off his sunglasses and gives a nod for the massive missile to be set up and launched.

It was gathered that the giant missile was first unveiled in North Korea in October 2020 and glorified as a “monster missile” because of its long-range but it had never been successfully test-fired.

According to The Times of London, the missile reached a maximum altitude of 3,880 miles (6,248 km) and traveled 680 miles (1,090km) during a 67-minute flight before crashing into Japanese waters.

Kim Jong-il, Jong-un’s father, was said to be a massive fan of cinema, who owned more than 20,000 videos and DVDs.

In the 1970s, he was said to have ordered the kidnapping of a South Korean director and an actor to help grow North Korea’s film industry.

However, the U.S. is calling for new sanctions against North Korea after the country tested its first intercontinental ballistic missile since 2017 on Thursday.

The U.N. needs to “update and strengthen” sanctions against North Korea, U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said at a meeting Friday, The Associated Press reported.

“It is clear that remaining silent, in the hope that the DPRK would similarly show restraint, is a failed strategy,” she said, referring to the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea, the country’s official name.

Thomas-Greenfield did not say what the sanctions should be, while Russia and China pushed back on the idea, according to the AP.

The calls for sanctions by the U.S. came after North Korea was condemned for its missile test Thursday, one of multiple since the start of 2022.

The missile was in the air for 70 minutes before crashing into the waters west of Japan after traveling 671 miles.

“It’s an unforgivable recklessness. We resolutely condemn the act,” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said after the country detected the missile.

South Korea responded by conducting its military drills while President Moon Jae-in called an emergency meeting of the national security council.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki called the test a “brazen violation of multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions and needlessly raises tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region.”

“This action demonstrates that the [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] continues to prioritize its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs over the well-being of its people,” she said.
