The Delta State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and crime in the state. On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, police announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapping leader, Sanusi Abdulahi, and recovered ₦5 million in ransom money.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, said in a press release that the operation was led by the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, under the leadership of CSP Godwin Osadolor.
How it Happened:
According to the police, on July 12, officers stormed a criminal hideout in Ogwashi-Uku (in Aniocha South Local Government Area) where they arrested Sanusi Abdulahi. He was caught with ₦5 million in cash, which was part of the ransom paid by the family of a kidnapping victim.
Police investigations revealed that Sanusi and his gang were involved in several kidnapping incidents across towns like Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, Obulu-Okiti, Issele-Uku, and Issele-Asagba. One of their most recent crimes was the kidnapping of a young woman in Ogwashi-Uku on July 9.
Sanusi later led the police to other gang hideouts in Second Deputy and Oko in Asaba, where four more suspects were arrested. Investigations are still ongoing.
Another Raid on July 9
In a separate operation on July 9, around 8:35 a.m., the CP’s Special Assignment Team raided another hideout along the Patani–Ughelli Expressway, close to Unenurhie.
There, police faced heavy gunfire from suspects, but the officers fought back bravely.
At the end of the gun battle:
- Six suspects were confirmed dead at the hospital.
- Two others are receiving medical treatment.
- Police recovered four locally-made guns and 19 live bullets from the scene.
