The National Judicial Council (NJC) of Nigeria has taken decisive actions to uphold judicial integrity by sanctioning several judicial officers for misconduct.
The NJC recommended the compulsory retirement of the Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Theresa Chikeka, and the Grand Khadi of Yobe State’s Sharia Court of Appeal, Kadi Musa Muhammad, for falsifying their ages.
Additionally, Justice Chinwendu Nworgu of Rivers State and Justice Chijioke Okaa of Anambra State were suspended for one year without pay due to various acts of misconduct.
The disciplinary actions were part of the outcomes from the NJC’s recent 106th meeting, reflecting its ongoing commitment to maintaining ethical standards in Nigeria’s judiciary. Furthermore, a judge in Yobe State was cautioned for improper handling of a property dispute case.
The council also empaneled committees to investigate pending petitions against other judicial officers, emphasizing its vigilance in addressing lapses across state and federal courts.
