The eastern hemisphere of the federal republic of Nigeria has in the past few years agitated for a restoration of status quo before all protectorates were harmonized to modern-day Nigeria, these agitations have led to the evident insecurity milieu in the current-day southeastern region of Nigeria.
According to Supreme Knight Sir Diamond Ovueraye, KSM, Knight of Saint Molumba of the Roman Catholic Church In present-day Nigeria, the KSM Supreme Convention is an annual rotational event from one metro council to another until it goes round all 9 metro councils, but in this case, Asaba has had to host twice back to back, this year inclusive which was suppose to hold in Owerri because of the insecurity in the southeast.
Speaking further, Sir Ovueraye sited the that even NSE, Nigerian Society of Engineers was supposed to hold theirs in Enugu but changed location to Abuja for security reasons, vis a vis lawyers that moved theirs to Port harcourt, stressing that “All it takes is for one man to shoot a bullet into one of our buses and the rest is history and that could have been averted, and that’s the reason why we came back to Asaba.”
The Supreme Knight of Saint Molumba who at a media parley with journalists in Asaba to kick start the convention said that the relocation took 5 weeks to plan also said that the theme of the convention this year, is “Normalization of the abnormalities in the context of the Nigerian Society- An Enquiry”
While speaking, Sir Ovueraye stated that he was earlier quoted out of the contest on the “no PVC no communion catchphrase “ stressing that “I don’t support the idea of no PVC no communion, yes the church encourages people to go into politics but is not and will not stop eligible Catholics from receiving communion, as politics is a personal choice. The statement no PVC no communion was merely a figure of speech, just to show the importance of the PVC.”
While speaking on the state of the nation which will be further discussed in succeeding days of the convention, the supreme knight hinted that “We know that most of us no matter how highly placed you are, are feeling the pinch, and to that effect, we have cushioned up the effect through palliatives worth more than 100m during the covid earlier era to the less privileged, free healthcare amongst others he added.
