The Imo State Government has shut down some banks in Owerri, the state capital for obeying the sit-at-home order imposed by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
On Tuesday, the government shut down all the banks along Bank Road in the state capital leaving bank customers stranded.
Some of the financial institutions that were shut down by the state government were Access Bank, Polaris Bank, First Bank, Eco Bank, and United Bank for Africa.
It was gathered from some of the bank employees that the officials of Owerri Capital Development Authority sealed the banks as early as 7 am, ribbons were used to seal the various banks in the area.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, has explained that the state government sealed the banks because they frustrated customers on Monday by refusing to open for transactions.
The Commissioner did not disclose when the government would unseal the banks when asked by a correspondent, rather he said it is left for OCDA and the banks to determine.
However, the OCDA General Manager, Innocent Ikpamezie, did not respond to multiple calls put across to his cell phones by our correspondent.
