The recent redeployment of senior police officials by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, signals a strategic shift in Nigeria’s security architecture aimed at addressing emerging security challenges across key regions. The reshuffle involves high-ranking officers in Rivers State, Delta State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu taking over the FCT command, formerly headed by Peter Opara, who now moves to Delta State. Abaniwonda Olufemi, the outgoing CP of Delta, will now oversee operations in Rivers State.
The move, according to the Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, is part of a broader restructuring effort to ensure optimal performance across critical regions. This realignment also includes the deployment of CPs to Abia, Lagos, Ebonyi, and Akwa-Ibom States. The reshuffle, approved by the Police Service Commission, places Danladi Nda in Abia, Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale in Lagos, Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya in Ebonyi, and Festus Eribo in Akwa-Ibom.
In line with the Inspector General’s reform agenda, these postings aim to enhance operational efficiency and align police leadership with the specific security needs of each state. The IG has called on the new commissioners to adopt innovative measures and ensure the diligence of their officers, particularly in tackling localized crime and maintaining peace.
This shake-up highlights the importance of dynamic leadership in addressing Nigeria’s complex security landscape and underscores the IG’s commitment to police reforms as a key element in strengthening the nation’s internal security apparatus.
