The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has advised Nigerians living abroad to be good ambassadors and law-abiding citizens, as not to tarnish the image of the country.
She gave the advice in a tweet via her verified twitter handle, reacting to the allegations grounded against Ramoni Igbalode, aka Ray Hushpuppi by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The suspected fraudster was arrested on June 10, 2020, in the United Arab Emirates in connection with a $35m ventilator scam.
Dabiri-Erewa said “not all Nigerians succeeding overseas are into fraudulent activities, While a few Nigerians get involved in such act, millions of others are still succeeding worldwide. One apple shouldn’t spoil the whole bunch “.
However, the Commission expressed displeasure with the cybercrime and money laundering networks with transactions running into millions of dollars allegedly exhibited by Ramoni Igbalode aka Hushpuppi.
Debra-Erewa also stated that Hushpuppi has a case to answer with the EFCC as he awaits a thorough investigation of the update of his case.
She also noted that the commission has started engagements with the FBI in tracking victims of fraudulent transactions and other fraudsters having direct involvement in the transactions.
