The Ministry of Home Affairs in South Africa has considered a new law that will allow women to marry more than one husband.
The law happens to function the same way the polygamous men are allowed to marry more than one wife.
According to a 67-page document also known as Green Paper on Marriage, stated that the legislation is discriminatory because it does not recognize Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, and Rastafarian marriage.
The current marriage legislation does not promote marriage equality rather it policy promotes the polyandry form of marriage to be legally recognized.
Also, in the Green Paper, the South Africa Ministry of Home Affairs proposed the option for a gender-neutral marriage regime that will allow favor both polyandry ad polygamy marriage.
Meanwhile, the Ministry also noted that the option for polyandry has ruffled feathers and South Africa’s traditional leaders have vociferously opposed the proposal, claiming that a woman being married to more than one husband is an “unacceptable practice because it is not of African origin.”
However, the document proposed has until the end of Jun for South Africans to comments on the context of it.
