How Police arrest 11 criminals in a gun battle, kill one, others flee (Photos)

The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of 11 criminals from Oghor Community in the Udu Local Government Area, during a gun battle that led to the death of one suspect.

It was gathered that the police through a manhunt at about 02:15hrs stormed the hideout of the notorious criminals that had been terrorizing the Udu Police Command and its neighboring environment of armed robbery, kidnappings, attack on police officers, and carting away with their arms in the Oghor community.

According to a statement that was made available to newsmen by the spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP. Edafe Bright, on Wednesday 23, 2021, stated that the commander of Eagle Net Special Squad, SP Dimka Unman detailed the squad leader, DSP Inusa Danyaya, and some civilian Anti-Cult Unit, who stormed the criminal’s hideout.

In the statement, he explained that, on arrival, the police team and the civilian anti-cult ensued the criminals on a gun battle which led to the death of one suspect who sustains gun injuries.

The police spokesperson also maintain that one of the suspects led them to where the criminals are hiding, he also said, the police team had to arrest the suspects which include, (1) Henry Ogori ‘m’ 25yrs of NO. 18 Ifiha street UDU, (2) Kennedy Akpotu ‘m’ 19yrs of Oghor community udu, (3) Promise Ophiomo ‘m’ 24yrs of NO.35 Ogbe road udu, (4) Daniel Believe ‘m’ 19yrs of shell Qtrs DSC, (5) Daniel Sele ‘m’ 25yrs of Ogbe street udu, (6) Paul Zion ‘m’ 25yrs of other community udu, (7) Igah Aminu ‘m’ 27yrs of disco area warri (8) Philip Choice ‘m’ 26 of other community, (9) Joshua Ogunamen ‘m’ 21yrs, (10) Johnson Opiomo ‘m’ 22yrs of No.36 ogbe road and (11) Joshua God’swill ‘m’ 24yrs of jews arts du. One of the suspects, Igah Aminu later died due to a gunshot injury.

DSP Edafe also enlists the items recovered from the suspects, according to him, 2 English made beretta pistols, 3 rounds of live 9mm caliber of ammunition, and 6 mobile phones.

He also maintains that suspects have confessed to the crime and effort is intensified for possible arrest of the fleeing suspects who escaped with bullet injuries.

In another vein, it was gathered that the DPO from Oghara Police Command also mobilized policemen to a scene of armed robbery along Oviade road to Oghara after receiving a report by one of the Indigene of Ovade community at about 12:30hrs that he came across three boys armed with short barrel gun which they attempted to snatch his unregistered Daylong motorcycle after blocking the path as at 13:00hrs on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

According to the reports, the policemen from Oghara met the suspect, one Gabriel Ogidi ‘m’ 35yrs who was already beaten to stupor where he was rushed to the hospital and confirmed died.

The statement also added that one short barrel gun with one live cartridge was recovered stating that, the investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.

It was also gathered that on Wednesday, March 24, at about 04:40hrs, the police from Ekakpmre outpost under Otu-Jeremi Division received a distress call that some members of Confrantanity cult group led by one Oghenerona Young Goddy ‘m’ alias King Jaja of Ekakpmre/Egbou-Hurie communities in Oti-Jeremi went to the home of one Ebeni Jelekun ‘m’ 29yrs of Ekakpmre, who belong to Aiye Confrantanity and shot him severally and fled.

According to the statement, the Divisional police officer of Otu-Jeremi, CSP Pius Eredei led a patrol team to the scene to arrest the suspects and as a result, two cultist Omoyevwe Emmanuel ‘m’ age 29yrs and Marcus Michael ‘m’ age 24yrs both of Usienfurun community were arrested with charms recovered from them while the investigation is still ongoing.

The Divisional police officer also recovered 6 expanded ‘AA’ cartridges from the scene while the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and his corpse deposited in the Otu-Jeremi general hospital mortuary.

However, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Ari Muhammad Ali FCIA, PSC+, has vowed to make the state unbearable for criminal elements, while given directives to all DPOs to key into the desire into its plans.

The CP said that, through intelligence gathering, community policing, and vital information from members of the public, the command has successfully recorded success in the fight against hoodlums, and he pledged to continue to deliver on the promise of making Delta State safe from all form criminalities in the state.

The Commissioner also urges all members of the public to continue to support and help the police by giving vital information to the police and he also assured all that their identity will be concealed. Adding that, together let all make Delta safe for everybody.
