The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of some suspected armed robbers in Warri, Kwale, and Okpe Local Government Area of the State.
These were made known to newsmen in a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Edafe Bright, Ag, on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
According to the statement, it was gathered that on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at about 7:30 pm, the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T. Y. Mahmud, received a distress call from a town service bus driver (name withheld) who alleged that while he was on his routine transport business with passengers on board along Okere road Warri, a tricycle with registration number SGD 430 VC blocked his bus when one of the occupants brought out a cut to size gun and dispossessed him and his passengers of their phones and other valuables. He raised an alarm for help and in the process the suspects took to their heels with the stolen items while the driver of the tricycle one Kingsley Godday “M” age 23 years was arrested.
Interestingly, the same Godday was earlier arrested in connection with foiled armed robbery attack where policemen from ‘A’ Division Warri recovered a tricycle with two empty cartridges whom the said suspect rushed to the station and reported that armed men snatched his tricycle from him, and the tricycle was released to him after proving ownership, but luck ran against him on this time as he was caught in the act.
Meanwhile, interrogation and investigation with the view to arresting the fleeing members of the gang are ongoing.
In another case that was recorded in Kwale Division on Friday, April 23, at about 7:30 pm, it was gathered that the Divisional police officer Kwale Division, SP Adie Bissong, while acting on a tip-off and intelligence gathering mobilized patrol teams along with some members of the public who has been helping the police to crack down criminal elements in Kwale axis, arrested a member of a notorious armed robbery gang leader that specializes in robbery and snatching of motorcycles.
The suspect identified as Ossai Bright ‘m’ aged 21 was arrested along Adige street opposite Ndokwa West Local Government Council while attempting to snatch a motorcycle, a cut-to-size locally-made gun, a knife, and one cartridge was recovered from him. However, the investigation is ongoing while frantic effort is in place to arrest other members of his gang.
Also, on Saturday, April 24, at about noon, it was gathered that the operatives of Eagle Net Special Squad while on patrol along Aziza road in Okpe LGA Warri, sighted two men suspected to be armed robbers on a motorcycle with a bag, the suspected robbers on sighting the police, jumped down from the motorcycle and escaped into a nearby bush, they abandoned the blue motorcycle with Reg no. USL-784 VC registered in Edo State.
The motorcycle was recovered while efforts are on top gear for the possible arrest of the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, PSC+ wishes to thanks members of the public for their continuous support in the fight against crime and criminalities in the state.
The CP also urging them to keep the tempo, shun all form of crime, report any suspicious movement to the police, and their identity will be treated with confidentiality, according to him, crime has no jurisdiction stating that it is the therefore collective effort of all, that will help fight it, as security is everybody’s business
