Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday inaugurated major road networks in Oko Kingdom and Asaba, describing the developments as a turning point for economic growth and political stability in the state. The governor declared that the visible achievements of his administration have positioned Delta as a stronghold for his party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ceremony included the commissioning of the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road in Oko Kingdom and adjoining roads in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area. Speaking to a gathering of community leaders, government officials, and residents, Oborevwori highlighted how these projects would improve connectivity, stimulate local economies, and enhance the livelihoods of farmers and traders.
He explained that the newly completed roads are designed to reduce travel time, provide reliable access to markets, and prevent the economic losses that previously occurred due to poor infrastructure. “For years, farmers in Oko struggled to transport produce, often resorting to neighbouring states, and sometimes selling at giveaway prices. Today, that challenge ends,” he said, emphasising the transformative impact of the road network on rural communities.
Oborevwori further revealed that Phase Two of the Oko road project had already been approved at a cost of ₦16.9 billion, with construction expected to be completed within 24 months. He expressed confidence that the contractor, Setraco Nigeria Limited, could finish the work earlier, citing the strategic importance of the project for local commerce and socio-economic development.
Highlighting complementary initiatives in Asaba, the governor also inaugurated the Amaechi Agusi and adjoining roads, complete with drainage systems aimed at preventing erosion and flooding. He noted that these interventions would improve business activities, safeguard properties, and create safer, more navigable streets for residents.
“This is a harvest of projects across Delta State. From educational institutions like the Government Technical College in Omadino to university faculty buildings in Agbor, Ozoro, and beyond, we are delivering tangible results that communities can see and feel,” Oborevwori said. He assured that further youth and women empowerment programs under the MORE Agenda would soon be rolled out, reinforcing the state’s commitment to inclusive development.
The governor also commended the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reforms that have strengthened the financial capacity of states to undertake developmental projects. “Partnerships at all levels of government are essential to sustaining progress. We remain focused on delivering results rather than making empty promises,” he said.
Officials from the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) confirmed that over 70 kilometres of roads and more than 20 kilometres of drainage networks have been completed or are ongoing within the capital territory. The long-awaited Asagba Road project in Asaba was also approved, with construction set to commence soon.
Community leaders, including the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili, and palace representatives of Oko and Asaba, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for the projects. They described the roads as transformational developments that would enhance commerce, boost livelihoods, and further cement Delta State’s political and economic prominence ahead of future elections.
“Delta has never looked better, and our people are confident in the leadership that delivers,” said Chief Patrick Ndili, Palace Secretary to the Asagba of Asaba. HRH Osita I, Akor of Oko Kingdom, added: “These projects open the door to greater development. We pledge our continued support for the governor and the president as we move toward 2027.”
