A leading data mining and public relations executive, Idris Etanami Usman, has expressed concern over the endless shortage of dollar denominations in Nigeria, which has adversely affected genuine businesses.
He attributed the scarcity of dollars to the actions of some state governors who allegedly convert their monthly allocations to dollars. According to investigations conducted by his company, certain state governors are exacerbating the dire situation by prioritizing personal gain over the well-being of their constituents.
In a statement released to DailyPost in Abuja on Thursday, Usman lamented the crisis and insisted that the role of governors in economic policies must be redefined. He emphasized that the routine conversion undermines the stability of the nation’s currency, and urged the government to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
The statement further decried the lack of palliative distribution by some governors despite the huge financial support from the federal government. Usman noted that millions of Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet, and the failure of state governors to fulfil their obligations to the people is both reprehensible and inexcusable.
Usman called on anti-graft agencies to deepen their investigation into the financial activities of those governors to bring the culpable ones to book. He stressed the need for immediate action to rectify the damage caused by those who have betrayed the trust placed in them by the Nigerian people.
