The spokesperson for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP presidential campaign council who also the honorable Commissioner for Information in Delta State, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has accused the members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its presidential candidate of trying to ignite a process that will lead to the postponement of the election.
He accused the 3 APC governors who took the federal government to the Supreme Court under the guise of fighting for Nigerians over the naira scarcity.
Mr. Aniagwu made this charge during a press conference in Asaba on Thursday stating that the PDP supported every effort made by the CBN to trap all illicit funds and not make them available for the election.
According to him, the PDP is very much aware that the APC and its presidential candidate are depending on stance funds largely on the old naira notes for vote buying which is why 3 APC governors have decided to take the federal government to the Supreme Court.
Aniagwu said the PDP as a political party wants the election to hold as scheduled because their only concern is to make sure that the governor at the Central Bank makes it possible for funds to be at the ATM in line with the limit that they have set.
He said as a political party, the PDP is not depending on vote buying because they are very confident of the interface they’ve already had with Nigerians adding that the APC is busy fighting President Muhammadu Buhari and everybody because they know they are going to lose this election.
The PDP campaign spokesperson also said, the APC governors forget to sue the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria but went ahead to sue the federal government instead of Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the CBN over the old naira notes, adding that the APC is only trying to trigger processes that will lead to the postponement of this election.
Speaking about the crisis as regards the issue of fuel scarcity, Aniagwu berated the 3 APC governors asking if the governors did not know that they have a Supreme Court and approach it over the fuel crisis rather they are fast to approach the court over the old naira notes because of interior motives.
He said in this country when people are finding it difficult to obtain their PVCs, these governors are very quiet minding their business but Today, these governors are posing as if what is affecting them is Nigerians who don’t have nairas in their pockets. That’s not their challenge, their challenge is how to deploy the old notes that they have stacked.
“Why didn’t they go to court to use the court against the CBN to provide the new naira notes, why are they still interested in the old ones? Did Nigerians say they are not interested in the new notes, why are they still busy talking about the old ones, the spokesperson asked.
Mr. Aniagwu further applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for trying to leave a legacy of a free, fair, and credible election despite the situation he is currently facing from the members of the APC who are trying to stumble through the process of the election.
“The APC members are not happy that Buhari wants to conduct a free and credible election using one man, one vote.
“Mr. President even if you are of the APC, we support you to leave a free, fair, and credible election for Nigerians. We support you in your desire to deal with those who have taken our money and want to spend it illicitly, we urged the CBN to make sure that the bank has the redesigned naira notes and not pump back the old notes into circulation because what Nigerians need at the moment is to have the redesigned notes for them to carry out their businesses as they are not looking for the old notes.
“Let the APC go to court and ask the court to impose it on the CBN to provide the new naira notes. Why are they trying to take us backward if indeed they have good intentions? They claimed the President is not smart enough but he is smarter than them on this, he added.
Mr. Aniagwu also said any PDP governors who wish in joining the APC governors to take the federal government to court over the old naira notes should rest assured that the party did not support them, adding that the PDP is one party and there is no fraction anywhere because their National Working Committee is still intact.
“Anybody who goes on air anywhere and begins to ask that they should join him in a suit should know that they are co-travelers. That money they think they will use to cause trouble is where their challenges are coming from because they just assumed that they have money to use to deceive people.
“We are not depending on money on this election, we are depending upon the interface we have had with Nigerians, we are depending on Nigerians because they believe that Atiku and Okowa will be able to make a difference, we are depending on the fact that Nigerians are looking forward to a country that will work effectively for everyone as they believe in the candidacy of Atiku and Okowa as the right candidates that will rescue the country, Aniagwu said.
