The peaceful community of Obodougwa-Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Government Area has been engulfed in a cloud of tension and grief following the horrifying murder of Mr Anselm Oyibo, a highly regarded community leader and former Chairman of the Community Development Committee.
In a gruesome act of violence, Oyibo was mercilessly attacked and brutally macheted to death by unidentified gunmen. To add to the horror, his lifeless body was callously set ablaze along with his motorcycle. The shocking discovery of his charred remains took place at the Obodougwa Ogume Junction along the Kwale-Obiaruku Road on Wednesday, sending shockwaves throughout the community.
As reported by Ibom Focus, Residents, who have chosen to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the situation, recounted the events leading up to Oyibo’s tragic demise. It is reported that Oyibo left his residence in Kwale late in the evening, around 11:30 pm, after receiving an ominous phone call. However, he never returned home, leaving his loved ones in a state of worry and confusion.
One resident shared a chilling account, stating, “The deceased abruptly woke up from his slumber just before midnight, announcing that he had to go out. He started his motorcycle, answered a call on his phone, and it was assumed he was visiting his second wife, as he was married to two. But the next morning, when he failed to return, his second wife was contacted, only to discover he hadn’t spent the night with her.”
Frantic attempts to reach Oyibo by phone yielded no results, as the ringing eventually transformed into an unreachable line. Tragically, the community received devastating news that a man’s life had been violently snuffed out, his remains burned alongside his beloved motorcycle at the junction.
Confirmation of the victim’s identity soon followed, confirming that Anselm Oyibo had suffered a brutal machete attack before meeting a horrifying fate in the flames. His lifeless body has been transported to the mortuary, where it awaits further examination and investigation.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has expressed the authorities’ commitment to unraveling the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime. “Efforts are ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his death,” he stated, assuring the community that justice will be sought.
As the investigation continues, the once-peaceful community of Obodougwa-Ogume finds itself grappling with the shock and sorrow of losing a revered leader. The residents stand united in their demand for answers, praying for justice to be served and peace to be restored to their grieving community.
