Hon. Enujeko Becomes Health Insurance Ambassador, Sponsors Free Healthcare for 120 People

Ubulu-Unor, Delta State – Hon. Chief Amb. Mayor Chinedu Enujeko has been honoured as a Health Insurance Ambassador (HIA) for his efforts in improving healthcare for people in his community. The award was given to him on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, by Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, the Director General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC). This happened during a special event where 120 people from the Ubulu-Unor Community were registered for free health insurance.

A Gift of Health for His People

Enujeko, who is the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Youth Mobilization to the Delta State Governor, decided to pay for the health insurance of 120 people in his hometown. This means they can now get medical care for free for one whole year. He explained that he did this to give back to the community that supported him in his political journey.

“I believe that when you hold a government position, you should help the people who supported you. The salary I earn is thanks to their votes. That’s why I took part of my salary and used it to pay for their healthcare,” he said.

He also encouraged other government appointees to support their communities instead of only giving out small cash gifts during elections. “Real empowerment is not just giving people money during campaigns. It’s about making a lasting impact, like ensuring they have access to good healthcare,” he added.

How the Beneficiaries Were Chosen

The selection process was done fairly. Enujeko asked the President General of the Ubulu-Unor community, Professor Mokobia Jiff, to help pick the beneficiaries. Each part of the community received a fair share of the spots, ensuring that people from different areas got help.

“I don’t even know the people who were selected. I only met them today during the registration,” Enujeko revealed.

Encouraging Other Leaders to Give Back

As the organizing secretary for all SSAs in Delta State, Enujeko also urged other government appointees to help their people. He advised them to set aside a portion of their salaries for community projects.

“If all appointees do their part, the people will feel the impact of the government. We need to show that we care about them, not just during elections,” he emphasized.

Support from Community Leaders

Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, the DG of the DSCHC, praised Enujeko for his generosity. He explained that this initiative aligns with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which aims to improve healthcare for the poor.

“The governor wants to make sure that even people in remote villages can get good healthcare. This program helps achieve that goal. I am very happy to see community leaders stepping up to support it,” Dr. Akpoveta said.

The traditional ruler of Ubulu-Unor, His Royal Majesty Obi Henry Kikachukwu, also expressed his joy about the program. “Health is wealth. It is wonderful to see that 120 people in my community now have access to healthcare. I hope that even more people will benefit in the future,” he said.

A Challenge to Other Leaders

Professor Mokobia Jiff, the President General of the Unified Ubulu-Unor Development Association (UUDA), described Enujeko’s action as inspiring. He noted that many government appointees in the past did little to help their communities.

“If all our leaders did things like this, they wouldn’t need to campaign so hard. The people would naturally support them because they see the good work they are doing,” he stated.

With this initiative, Hon. Chief Amb. Mayor Chinedu Enujeko has set an example for other leaders to follow. By using his position to bring healthcare to his people, he has shown what true leadership means—helping those who need it the most.
