In a significant development, the Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old herbalist, Salestina Bala, for her alleged involvement in the killing of three individuals accused of witchcraft. Salestina, who resides in Kwa Village, Lamurde Local Government Area, is believed to have conspired with others to torture the victims—Lazarus Bashiru, Galion Isa, and Ajasko Yakubu—leading to their deaths.
The arrest was made on September 14, 2024, by operatives from the Tigno Divisional headquarters, following reports from concerned individuals, Dogara Sabon Reza and Jeri Dogara. According to the police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the victims had been accused of practicing witchcraft before being subjected to fatal torture.
The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Moris Dankwambo, confirmed the arrest and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. He further stated that the suspect would face formal charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
This case highlights the persistent challenge of mob justice and harmful traditional beliefs in parts of the country, which often result in tragic consequences. The police are calling for calm and urging communities to refrain from taking the law into their own hands while investigations continue.
