Guwor Commends Oborevwori as Delta Assembly Resumes Plenary

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Emomotimi Guwor, has praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as purposeful leadership and sustained commitment to the development of Delta State.

Guwor made the commendation on Tuesday during the resumption of plenary after the Christmas and New Year recess, as members of the 8th Assembly returned to legislative duties.

In his opening address, the Speaker formally welcomed lawmakers back and extended New Year greetings to them and their families on behalf of the leadership of the House, urging members to remain focused on their responsibility to the people.

He said the Assembly had recorded notable achievements, including the passage of people-oriented bills, adoption of critical resolutions, and the conduct of effective oversight activities that have strengthened governance, transparency, and accountability across the state.

According to Guwor, the House has remained consistent in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities, while its committees have continued to engage Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure compliance with legislative approvals and the prudent use of public resources.

He noted that these efforts reflect the collective commitment of the Assembly to advancing the welfare and aspirations of Deltans.

The Speaker also commended Governor Oborevwori for what he termed efficient and effective governance, citing the recent groundbreaking of the Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli North Local Government Area as clear evidence of good governance.

He explained that the governor’s people-focused policies, strategic infrastructural investments, and prudent resource management have continued to deliver tangible benefits across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Guwor reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to sustaining its legislative priorities, including the enactment of laws that promote economic growth, peace and security, social welfare, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development.

He added that the House would intensify its oversight functions to ensure effective implementation of government policies and programmes.

The Speaker further emphasized the harmonious relationship between the Legislature and the Executive, anchored on mutual respect and a shared vision for a stronger and more prosperous Delta State, assuring the governor of the Assembly’s continued support through sound legislation and constructive oversight.

He urged lawmakers to approach the remaining part of the Third Session with renewed vigour, unity of purpose, and commitment to excellence, calling for respectful debates, constructive engagements, and decisions guided by the collective interest of the people of Delta State.
