Google Maps has introduced a new feature for Android and iOS users that allows them to easily track their progress towards their destination without unlocking their phone or opening the Google Maps app.
This feature, called Glanceable Directions, displays navigation updates on your lock screen and can be turned on within the app’s settings. With this feature, you can view your position and estimated time of arrival on the map as you travel, and the data is updated to account for your travel speed and any alternative routes you take.
Despite being a useful travel upgrade, Google has silently rolled out this feature without any fanfare, and it has already been widely adopted by users in various regions. This feature was first spotted by Android Police and If you haven’t seen any changes to your app, you can simply update it on Android or iOS and follow the instructions to turn on Glanceable Directions in the Navigation Settings menu.
However, it’s important to note that enabling this feature may involve sharing some of your navigation data with Google to improve the accuracy of Maps for everyone. You can tap the “Learn more” button to find out more about how your data is being used.
