A 19-year-old girl, Rumasau Muhammed, was arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her husband, Adamu Muhammed, 35 years, to death.
The suspect stabbed her husband after three weeks of marriage because her husband rejected to approve her request for separation from the forced marriage her parents urged her into.
This was made known by the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, on Wednesday in Yola while disclosing the arrest of the teenager.
According to DSP Nguroje, he said the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Alhaji, had ordered a clinical investigation into the case.
He said, “Police investigation so far reveals that the suspect was forcefully married to the deceased by her parents against her will on August 6, 2021, and the marriage lasted for only three weeks before the ugly incident.
“The suspect, Rumasau Muhammed, a resident of Wuro Yanka village, Shelleng LGA, stabbed her late husband, Muhammed Adamu, with a knife after seeking divorce and the deceased refused to pronounce such divorce.
“Angered by his refusal to divorce her after several requests by her, the suspect used a knife and stabbed him in his stomach, as a result of which he fell unconscious and was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The police spokesperson also said the CP, while frowning on forced marriage, directed the immediate prosecution of the suspect to serve as a deterrent to others.”
