Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule Meet Tinubu

Abuja, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held a crucial meeting with top political figures from Rivers State — Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule — as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state.

The closed-door meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, also included several other members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Although the full details of what was discussed have not been made public, the gathering is seen as a major step toward achieving peace and reconciliation among the key political players in Rivers.

Rivers State has been facing a serious political dispute involving Governor Fubara and members of the State Assembly, many of whom are loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The rift has led to division in governance, legal battles, and rising political tension in the state.

The meeting comes shortly after the Rivers State Assembly passed the 2025 budget of ₦1.485 trillion and confirmed the appointment of a new board for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). The new RSIEC board is expected to organize local government elections on August 9, 2025, a move that was approved by the National Assembly.

Political observers believe President Tinubu’s intervention is yielding results, as there are growing signs that all sides may have reached a reconciliation agreement, even though it has not yet been officially announced.

This has also led to speculations that the State of Emergency declared by President Tinubu on March 18, 2025, due to the worsening political crisis in Rivers, may soon be lifted.

Many Nigerians and Rivers residents are hopeful that this meeting will finally bring peace, unity, and political stability back to the oil-rich state. The Presidency is expected to make a formal statement in the coming days to confirm the outcome of the discussions.

Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge from the Presidency and stakeholders involved.
