The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is investigating Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, a former member of the House of Representatives, over allegations of mismanaging government projects. Elumelu, who represented the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, is accused of converting public projects into personal assets during his time in office.
One key focus of the investigation is the “Asaba Massacre Monument Center,” a building in Asaba, Delta State. The ICPC recently sealed the property, alleging it was a constituency project facilitated by Elumelu but unlawfully used for private purposes. The project, executed by the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, was never officially handed over to the government, raising suspicions.
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed the investigation, stating that the project was flagged under the Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative (CEPTI), which monitors how government funds are spent on public projects.
This is not the first controversy surrounding Elumelu’s political career. Despite serving as Minority Leader and holding key positions such as Chairman of the House Committees on Power and Health, he has faced challenges, including failed bids for governorship and re-election in 2023.
The investigation adds to the growing list of cases under the ICPC’s crackdown on the misuse of public funds. Between December 2023 and December 2024, the agency tracked and recovered N30 billion worth of diverted funds and items listed in the budget.
Elumelu has not yet responded to the allegations, and the case raises broader questions about transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s political system.
