The Director General, Young Nigerian Rights Organizations, Comrade Victor Ojei, has lamented over recent threat to his life by the Director General DESTMA, Mr. Sam Azubuike Idah.
This is contained in a statement signed and forwarded to Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa by Comrade Ojei and was made available to goldennationblog.com
Ojei conveyed concern over the onslaught and threat messages against his life and his media company, Wong Box TV by the Destma DG.
The statement reads:
“This is to bring to the attention of your good office the above subject matter for possible investigation and further necessary action, should my claims be confirmed to be within the limit of law and fundamental human rights.
“The onslaught against my person and my MEDIA COMPANY by name WONG BOX TV MEDIA, We relied on the Freedom of Information Act which has now become a law and the freedom of speech and expression in gathering all the materials used to ensure we expose and correct all corruption in the Delta State Traffic management Authority.
“It was initiated as part of our contribution to the present administration of His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa of which the DESTMA Agency is now called OKOWA POLICE which is now a stigma on the person of the Governor of Delta State.
Currently, the Governor of Delta State approved the investigation of the allegations we petitioned against Mr Sam Azubuike Idah the current Director General of DESTMA, a Disciplinary Committee was setup and the Chairman of the committee is the current Delta State Commissioner for Transport who sent us a letter of invitation of which we obliged and upon our presentation of documents and victims of the alleged subject matter were convinced with our information that we presented to them.
“But our efforts ever since Deltans and the State Government appreciated our efforts to sanitize the agency of corrupt practices by the DG DESTMA and his Officers, we contributed massively to complement our plan by way of freely giving useful contributions and information via our social media platform @wong box and by sending petitions of our observations to the Delta State Government and security agencies in the state, we previously sent a petition to your office with respect to the actions and inaction of the DG DESTMA but till date we are yet to get response from you.
“Lately, the DG DESTMA threatened my life on the 29th of June 2020, I also made this known to the Government of Delta State when presenting out proofs of corrupt practices by the DG DESTMA and his Officers, attached to this petition is a copy of the screen shot of the threat message sent to me via my whatsapp message the aim of the message was to suppress evidence cause this came 48hrs to my appearance before the Disciplinary Committee of Ministry of Transport, attempts of threats to my life, intrigues to compromise us of distorting the evidences we have that we had to present, as if it was not enough he served me a letter for me to retract all evidences I have put out that will incriminate him and make a publication to that effect, I also attached the paper work from his law firm.
“It is obvious that he wants to use desperate efforts to use the law firm to intimidate me to suppress my effort to sanitize the Delta State Traffic Management Authority., instead of the due process of law.
“Keep in mind that the DG DESTMA brought back a former staff who was dismissed from DESTMA by a disciplinary committee in the past of which the Ministry of Transport upheld the judgment of Mr Ubido Nathaniel of his corrupt practices but the DG DESTMA brought him back to be head of Field Operations so as to fulfill his mission of exploiting Deltans via traffic offences whereby a offence of using an illegal U-Turn a fee of 2000 naira they will tell the traffic offender to pay N25,000 or N30,000 and if the victim gets to their office and plead with the DG DESTMA he will alter the initial booking and tell the person to pay maybe N20,000 or N18,000 to him or at the bank rarely, the money for tow truck is not paid to the bank, they collect it in hand thereby shortchanging the government IGR, we have exposed a lot more to the public and this makes it not to be good for his corrupt business.
“His aim of looting from the public is because he has a share on a monthly basis from the total amount generated for the delta state government, of course life is all about interest, his interest is to increase the actual amount so as to benefit by the end of each month from the total IGR.
“Currently I am the P.R.O of Delta State Coalition of Civil Societies, NGO’s and Media on Covid-19 Taskforce I also double as the Investigation and Intelligence Officer of International Human Rights Commission.
