The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has produced a new State Working Committee (SWC) through a consensus process at its State Congress held at the Cenotaph in Asaba. The congress, which brought together party leaders and delegates from across the state, marked a significant moment in the party’s reorganization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chief Solomon Arenyeka, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emerged as the new Delta APC State Chairman by consensus. His emergence was part of a broader agreement among party stakeholders to adopt a unified list of candidates for all executive positions in order to maintain harmony within the party.
Also elected were Elder Moses Iduh as Deputy Chairman and Chief Efe Uko as State Secretary. Other members of the new executive include Chief Paulinus Akpeki as Delta Central Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba as Delta South Chairman, Engr. Daniel Ossai as Delta North Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Egbabor as State Organising Secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo as State Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie as State Woman Leader, and Christopher Agali as State Youth Leader, among others.
The Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba, declared the new executive elected after delegates affirmed the consensus list. He stated that the process followed the APC constitution and guidelines, emphasizing that the affirmation method is a recognized internal democratic process within the party.
Earlier in the congress, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing State Working Committee led by Elder Omeni Sobotie. The motion was seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and was unanimously adopted by delegates, clearing the way for the election of the new leadership.
Addressing party members, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed appreciation to the outgoing executive for their service during what he described as a defining transition period for the party. He noted that the peaceful conduct of congresses across the 270 wards and 25 local government areas demonstrated unity and internal discipline within the Delta APC.

The governor commended party stakeholders for choosing consensus over conflict, describing the process as one built on consultation and agreement rather than imposition.
“There was no imposition. What we saw was broad consultation and inclusiveness. This structure belongs to everyone,” Oborevwori said.
He urged the new executive to immediately begin strengthening grassroots structures, holding regular meetings, and mobilizing members in preparation for the 2027 elections.
“Our mission is clear. We must secure victory at every level — from the Presidency to the State House of Assembly,” he said, expressing confidence that the APC in Delta would deliver massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all party candidates.
Governor Oborevwori also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and performance under the MORE Agenda, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, agriculture, security, and human capital development.
In his remarks, the immediate past State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the congress as a product of unity and collective sacrifice. He advised the new leadership to lead with humility and always prioritize the interest of the people over personal ambition.
“Ability may take a man to the top, but humility keeps him there,” Sobotie said.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Solomon Arenyeka thanked party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in him and the new State Working Committee. He pledged to promote unity, hard work, integrity, and accountability while building a strong and inclusive party structure.
Arenyeka assured members that the new executive would work tirelessly to consolidate the party’s gains and deliver victory in the 2027 general elections.
The congress ended in an atmosphere of celebration and renewed optimism, as party members expressed confidence that the consensus-driven leadership would strengthen the APC’s position across Delta State in the coming electoral cycle.
