The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe (FTH) has taken a firm stance against employees engaging in cryptocurrency mining during work hours, citing concerns over distractions that could impact patient care.
An internal circular issued by the hospital emphasizes the importance of prioritizing public health, stating that staff are allowed to pursue other activities outside their official duties. Adamu Usman Tela, the hospital’s deputy director of administration, confirmed that this decision was made proactively, even prior to any formal complaints from the public.
The circular also outlines that monitoring measures, including the deployment of SERVICOM, ACTU, and security officers, will be implemented to ensure adherence to the new policy.
This move comes amid a growing trend among Nigerians who have been increasingly engaged in cryptocurrency mining on their mobile devices, often dedicating significant amounts of time to the activity. The hospital management’s decision reflects a commitment to maintaining a focus on patient care and operational efficiency in the face of these emerging distractions.
