The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Sunday Etukudo for allegedly killing his 20-year-old daughter, Ofonmbuk Sunday, following a family dispute.
In a statement released in Uyo, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, explained that the incident occurred after an altercation in which the suspect claimed that his daughter grabbed his manhood during the confrontation. In retaliation, Etukudo reportedly struck her on the head with a stick, resulting in her death.
To conceal the crime, Etukudo buried his daughter in a shallow grave within the family compound located in Omum Unyiam Village, located in Omum Unyiam Village, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. The police later exhumed the body for an autopsy following credible information received about the crime.
The police statement, in part, read: “Based on credible information, on 9th October 2022, at about 1910hrs, one Ime Sunday Etukudo of Omum Unyiam village in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, unlawfully killed and buried his daughter, one Ofonmbuk Ime Sunday, aged 20 years, at the family compound.”
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to face charges for the unlawful killing of his daughter.
