The former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode, has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has joined with the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC caretaker committee chairman and governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni presented him to President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Fani Kayode in his decision to join the APC, he said, he was led by the spirit of God adding that he is devoted to the unity of the country and that he is against anything that would cause the breakdown of Nigeria.
The former minister revealed that he was the instrument that led to the defection of three People’s Democratic Party governors to the APC.
He named Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state, Ben Ayade of Cross River, and Bello Matawale of Zamfara as the governors he helped foster their defection to APC.
He revealed that he has colleagues across party lines and that he is presently recommending Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the governor of Enugu State, Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo state, and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi to join the ruling party.
It was gathered that the former minister’s defection comes several months after he passionately rejected dumping the PDP.
Recall in February, Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, had claimed that Fani-Kayode had crossed over to the APC but Fani-Kayode proved to the contrary against Bello’s claim, insisting that he was still a member of PDP.
