Abuja, Nigeria — Nigerian women’s football star Rasheedah Ajibade has revealed that President Bola Tinubu’s government has yet to pay the $100,000 promised to each Super Falcons player after their victory at the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, shared on YouTube by @WithChude, the Atletico Madrid forward—known for her signature blue braids—said the team is still waiting for both the prize money and their match bonuses.
“We have not received that money. They haven’t paid. Hopefully, they will pay,” Ajibade said. “People are begging… When they pay it, you will see. Our match bonuses and everything is still a work in progress.”
Tinubu’s Pledge In July 2025, President Tinubu announced a reward package for the 24 players and 11 technical team members:
- $100,000 (in naira equivalent) for each player
- $50,000 for each technical crew member
- National honours for all team members
- Three-bedroom houses for every player and coach
Tinubu praised the Super Falcons’ performance as “awe-inspiring” and commended their sportsmanship after they visited injured South African player Gabriela Salgado following a semi-final win over Banyana Banyana. The Falcons later defeated Morocco 3–2 in the final.
Basketball Team Also Waiting A similar promise was made to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, after they clinched the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket title by defeating Mali 78–64. Each player was promised $100,000, while each coach and technical crew member was to get $50,000.
Both championship-winning teams are still waiting for the pledged payments.
