The member representing Ndokwa West in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Charles Emetulu, said Deltans should look forward to the 8th Assembly participating actively in governance.
He said the Legislature intends to collaborate with the executive arms of the government for the betterment of the entire state.
The returning lawmaker said this while speaking with journalists during the reception ceremony held at the Legislative Quarters in Asaba, the Delta State capital on Tuesday.
According to him, collaborating with the executive arms of the government does not mean that the Assembly is a rubber stamp. It only means that as democracy matures, there will be fewer conflicts.
Hon. Emetulu said the House of Assembly members are there to speak for their people saying “The House of
Assembly is Delta State. It is the democracy in it but if one removes democracy, it means there’s no Delta state”.
He added, “For example, if Hon. Emetulu is speaking, it means that the whole of Ndokwa West is speaking because for him to perform his obligations, he must confer with his people to know their demands.”
“I believe when Democracy matures, there will be fewer conflicts. Though I did not believe that I am going into conflict with anybody and if there is anything of such, it will be resolved maturely.”
He also added that the 7th Assembly has worked fantastically and he except the 8th Assembly to accomplish better cohesion.
“It is that cohesion that led to the Assembly producing the governor of the state. There is a bond, unity, love, understanding, and compassion as everybody knows what each member wanted. We give ourselves that push to achieve whatever we wanted to achieve.”
“I think the 8th Assembly will try to beat that and when they beat it, the coming assembly will also try to do it. So I believe this assembly will do better than the 7th assembly”, Emetulu said.
