Enerhen Junction Flyover 71% Complete – Ready by December!

ASABA, Monday – The Delta State Commissioner for Special Projects, Chief (Barr.) Funyei Manager, on Monday in Asaba said the ongoing construction of the Enerhen Junction Flyover will be completed by December this year.

The commissioner made this known while speaking with journalists on the state of the project, which is being handled by construction giant Julius Berger.

He explained that the project is already 71 percent complete, with all crossing beams installed.

“I can confidently tell you that we are 71 percent complete. Tentatively, we are looking at December, by God’s grace. Barring all unforeseen circumstances, we should be ready for His Excellency to commission the project,” Barr. Funyei said.

Beyond the flyover update, the commissioner also addressed concerns about the unpleasant odour recently noticed at the state secretariat.

He explained that the smell, which began two weeks ago, was caused by a clogged drainage system beneath one of the secretariat buildings.

“The secretariat is a huge facility with three buildings. The main one, the Professor Chike Edozien building, has underground drainages. When these get clogged, the only way they alert you is by smelling. We quickly swung into action, and the affected area has been handled,” he said.

Barr. Funyei noted that such issues are common in large facilities and may reoccur in different areas. He stressed that while the state has vendors and cleaners in charge of sanitation, everyone using the facility must also take responsibility for keeping it clean.

“This office will not fold its hands when people paid to keep the building clean are not doing their job. But cleanliness is the duty of everybody. Some people misuse the toilets by flushing pads or leaving waste behind, and that causes blockages. Cleaners have their job, but civil servants, political appointees, and everyone using the secretariat must also play their part so that the facilities remain in good condition for the next person,” he added.

Turning back to state development, the commissioner urged Deltans to continue supporting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, emphasizing that the governor’s MORE Agenda is designed to benefit all 25 local government areas.

“Governor’s love for all Deltans cannot be overemphasized, and no Deltan is more important than the other. That is how governance is supposed to be, because his MORE Agenda is for everybody to enjoy,” he said.

He further explained that Governor Oborevwori has introduced several empowerment programs and is still working with the Federal Government to create more opportunities for residents.

According to him, “Oborevwori has done numerous empowerments, and he is still empowering. I want Deltans to continue to support him so that he will continue to deliver on his MORE Agenda. It is now Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda, and that is the reality.”

When completed, the Enerhen Junction Flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and boost economic activities in Warri and surrounding communities.
