Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has disconnected the government offices in Niger State over a debt of N1.9 billion.
The company made the disconnection over the Easter weekend and the company workers who made the disconnection said they disconnected the state House of Assembly complex, the office of the Secretary to the state government, and the water board among others.
It was gathered that most of the offices affected were powered by generators on Tuesday when they resumed work.
According to a statement issued on Friday, the regional manager of the electricity company in Minna said the debt spanned over eight years and vowed not to reconnect the offices until they were cleared.
He said that the immediate past administration left a whooping debt of N343 million, adding that from June 2015 till date the government accrued a total debt of N1.9 billion.
The manager also said all efforts made to recover the debt have been so frustrating so far.
