The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 11 people suspected of internet fraud in Niger State. The arrests happened on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the White Hill Hotel in the Chanchaga Local Government Area.
Some people earlier claimed that armed men pretending to be EFCC officials broke into the hotel at dawn, turned off the security cameras, and kidnapped hotel guests. A security expert, Zagazola Makama, reported that 10 people were taken away to an unknown location. The police also said they were investigating the alleged abduction.
However, the EFCC denied these claims, saying the arrests were carried out legally in broad daylight and based on strong evidence of internet fraud. According to Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity, officers acted professionally, and there was no kidnapping involved.
The EFCC also confirmed that they seized two vehicles and 13 mobile phones from the suspects. Once investigations are complete, they will be taken to court for trial.
