The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arrested Hafsat, the wife of Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano state governor over reports of bribery and fraud.
It was gathered by Premium Times that the commission acted based on a petition presented by her son, Abdulazeez Ganduje.
Abdulazeez was said to have reported his mother to the commission for corruptly using family power and status for private enrichment.
The governor’s wife was arrested on Monday evening and was still at EFCC headquarters as of 6 am on Tuesday.
She was arrested after she failed to appear upon invitation at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on September 13.
It was also gathered that she visited the UK at the time to attend the graduation ceremony of her son.
Meanwhile, according to Abdulazeez in his petition, he explained how he was approached by a property developer to help facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars and at least 35 million nairas as “facilitation commission”.
He was said to have paid the money to his mother.
“But three months later, the property developer discovered that the plots of land he wanted and remembered paid for had been allocated to other buyers. Thereafter, he requested to be refunded,” a source was quoted to have said.
