Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has claimed that he was not invited to the inauguration ceremony of the incoming governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, scheduled for November 12, 2024.
This follows the recent electoral transition in the state, where Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), is set to succeed Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite political differences, Obaseki has called for cooperation and a smooth transfer of power through a transition committee.
Allegations also surfaced that the APC had borrowed N5 billion for the inauguration, but specific details or corroborations have yet to be clearly reported.
Preparations for the transition continue as both parties engage in talks to ensure an effective change of leadership, albeit amid noted disagreements over financial management.
