Drivers protest over purchase of double tickets in Warri

Passengers using Warri-Effurun Express Way, missed the services of commercial bus (kpelebe) drivers as the drivers embarked on a peaceful protest on Monday, October 26, over the purchase of double tickets in Warri South Local Government Area.

The protest was peaceful, but authorities of the Nigerian Army did not want to take chances considering the unstable situation in the country, as they swiftly responded to the protest by drafting soldiers to protect the protesters on their peaceful march to the Delta Broadcasting Service Station, Edjeba, Warri where they aired their complaints.

Shortly after the visit to the broadcast station, the protesting bus drivers were addressed by a senior official of Warri South Local Government Council as the Chairman of Local Government Council, Dr. Michael Tidi, was said to be out of town for an official assignment.

The commercial bus drivers were however told to stop the purchase of tickets pending the outcome of a stakeholder meeting scheduled to hold Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

The drivers had complained that they were buying double tickets at the cost of four hundred nairas each, one at Main Market and the other at New Port Junction Ugbuwangue in Warri South Local Government Area.

They further lamented that they were subjected to the payment of one-hundred-naira levy daily at two different spots in the local government area.

The unhappy commercial bus drivers, therefore, agitated that they should be made to purchase only one ticket that would serve them in any local government they travel to in the state like their commercial tricycle (Keke) counterparts.
