Despite Protests, Delta Govt Highlights Development in Udu

Asaba, July 1, 2025 — Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, says some people are spreading lies to make the government look bad ahead of the 2025 elections. He made this statement on Tuesday in Asaba while speaking to journalists about the recent protest by some youths in Udu Local Government Area.

Aniagwu said these individuals are trying to mislead the public and cause trouble by sponsoring others to tell false stories about what the government has or hasn’t done. According to him, the Delta State Government has been fair to all 25 local government areas, including Udu — even though the area did not vote massively for the Governor in the 2023 election.

Massive Projects in Udu

Mr. Aniagwu shared that the state government has done a lot of work in Udu, especially in roads, schools, and health. Some of the key projects include:

  • Over 27.8km of roads and 24km of drains have been built or fixed in Udu.
  • Roads connecting Uvwie, Ughelli South, and Warri South-West have also been improved.
  • Flyover construction at the DSC roundabout, and road works at CAC Road, Bezi Road, and Aladja.
  • Rehabilitation of the Ekakpamre–Ekrokpe–Usiefrun–Orhuwhorun Road, which links both Udu and Ughelli South.
  • Reconstruction of Opete Road, running from DSC Expressway to Opete Waterside.
  • Street construction in towns like Oghior, Opete, and Aladja, including Chief Godwin Okporoko Crescent and Arhavwarien Avenue.
  • Phase I & II of the Aladja–Ogbe-Ijoh Road, with Phase II already approved and in progress.

Udu Harbour Market – ₦4.8 Billion Project

Aniagwu said one of the biggest investments is the new Udu Harbour Market, which is worth ₦4.8 billion. The market will have:

  • 230 modern shops
  • A standard abattoir (slaughterhouse)
  • Security systems
  • Lighting for night trading

Health and Hospitals

The government is also working on the healthcare sector:

  • Four primary healthcare centers in Udu are being renovated.
  • A 4D ultrasound scan machine has been provided to the General Hospital in Otor-Udu to improve diagnosis.

Schools and Education Projects

In education, many schools in Udu are receiving attention:

  • A JAMB ICT Centre is being built at Ogbe-Udu Secondary School to help students prepare for exams.
  • Renovation of classroom blocks in schools like Okolor Waterside Primary, Owhrode Secondary, Ogbe-Udu Secondary, Ekete Secondary, and Aladja Grammar School.
  • Classrooms are being rebuilt and equipped with toilets, offices, and furniture.
  • A new three-classroom block with an exam hall has also been renovated in Otor-Udu.

Electricity and Streetlights

  • A 500KVA transformer has been installed along the Orhuwhorun–Usiefrun Road to improve power supply.
  • Old solar-powered streetlights in Ukpiovwin Town and Ogbe-Udu have been replaced.

Government Stands by Its Projects

Aniagwu, joined by key government officials like Sir Festus Ahon, Dr. Fred Latimore, and Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, said all the projects are real and can be confirmed by anyone. He asked the youths not to believe those trying to stir up problems for political gain.

“We’re not only working in areas that supported us politically. We’re working everywhere. Development is a duty — and we’re fulfilling that duty in Udu and across Delta State,” Aniagwu said.

He assured the public that the Oborevwori-led government will continue to deliver projects that improve lives, regardless of political support.
