DESOPADEC To Prioritize Projects Based On Community Needs

Hon. Chief Dr. Charles Olisa, a member representing Ndokwa East on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), has said the board’s vision is to surpass the previous administration.

He said they are engaging critical stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, women, and youths to figure out the kind of projects needed in their community.

Dr. Olisa made this known to Journalists when members of the Indigenous Correspondents Chapel of Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday.

The DESOPADEC boss said the board is planning to come up with a template that they will work with based on the available resources.

According to him, they will prioritize all the projects based on the special needs of the communities, because they want the community to have what they wanted instead of doing a project that they don’t want at that particular time.

He spoke about the epileptic power supply in Ndokwa land, stating that he is aware of the lack of power supply by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, but promises that the solution will be on a two-way approach, as one will be a short term while the other will be for a long term.

Explaining, he said the short term is to engage with the BEDC to improve the power delivery and supply in Ndokwa ethnic nationality, while the long term is to work together as a team with the members of the National and State Assembly representing Ndokwa and the State government to put pressure on those responsible for the setting down of the independent power plant that will sustain enough power supply.

He also spoke about the unemployment challenges faced by the youth and its development, stating that different programs will be rolled out for the youths to make them independent and self-reliant.

Dr. Olisa added that a skill acquisition academy program is already in place to help train the youth on different skills while adding that a palliative will also be distributed to the youth from time to time to improve their economic well-being.

He said the commission hope to ensure that the processes of youth benefiting from this initiative are transparent and all-inclusive based on the limited resources which are been guided by the budget.

Hon. Chief Dr. Charles Olisa is an environmentalist, geographer, politician, and hotelier who hails from Aboh in Ndokwa East LGA of Delta State.
