Delta State Ministry of Youth Development unveiled its first-ever youth policy that will run from 2023 to 2027, known as the “MORE-YD E’ Serie”.
This policy was unveiled by the Governor, His Excellency, Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday during the 2023 Africa Youth Day celebration held at the Unity Hall, Government House in Asaba, the state capital.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy, Jerry Ehiwario expressed optimism about the policy and encouraged youth to key into the MORE Agenda through the ministry.
Oborevwori urged the youth to take advantage of the ever-changing world and to think outside the box as he encouraged them to bring out their hidden talents for them to develop as white-collar jobs are not and will not be enough to go around.
According to the governor, the youths are an integral part of his administration and he cannot make meaningful progress without leaning on developing the intellect and general talents of the youths in the state.
He promised that his administration would always be youth-friendly as it tends to focus more on youth development in the state.
On his part, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Agbatemiyiro Isaac Weyinmi said that the policy is indispensable for youth development in the state as it is built upon seven thematic areas, engagement, education, entrepreneurship, employability, entertainment, exchange and collaboration, easing of any form of crime and social vices.
Weyinmi likewise says this year’s Africa Youth Day celebration theme, “One Million Next Level is Knocking: Youth-led Movement that Transcends Borders,” emphasizes the need for a successful, equitable, and stronger youth movement that transcends borders.
He added that the celebration aims to reach out to young people with opportunities in health and wellbeing, Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Engagement.
The Commissioner also said it gears toward overcoming age-related barriers in various spheres such as social integration, economic strengthening or political participation through partnership is essential.
He advised the youth that the MORE Agenda of the Governor has opened the doors within the context of the State for youth participation and exclusiveness while advising them to conduct themselves in a manner that they can be sufficiently allowed to participate and be accommodated.
Also speaking is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, MS Ngozi Mogbolu who encouraged the youth to always dream big and have bright visions for the next level despite the challenges they might face.
She added that the ministry through its policy is willing to do everything possible to support youth in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, putting in that the commissioner is already running an open-down policy and within a few months in office, he has given a platform for a lot of youth to showcase what they are made of.
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development, Hon. Chief. Ebikeme Clark said the celebration of Africa Youth Day is necessary as it provides an opportunity for the youth in the state to gather and be mentored through the reorientation of their minds towards hard work.
He advised the youth to be patient and take education seriously and also to learn a trade to enable them to live meaningfully without white-collar jobs.
