The Delta State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mrs. Jennifer Adasen Ereviroro, has reiterated the state government’s continuous desire to partner with the private sector in the area of information communication technology as it is a veritable tool for reducing youth unemployment and making them economically self-reliant.
The Commissioner stated this in Asaba last weekend at a physical mini hackathon held by Remotebase, in partnership with the State Ministry of Science and Technology at the lCT hub, Asaba.
The Science and Technology Commissioner said with the high premium placed by the Okowa administration on developing the skills of the teeming youths in the ICT sector to make them economically independent and become employers of labor, the initiative by Remotebase falls perfectly in line with the stronger Delta vision of the present administration.
She commended Remotebase for the initiative of the mini hackathon which was geared towards enabling software engineers and technology enthusiasts to evolve solutions to local problems as a way to ignite the developer ecosystem and improve community engagement.
Earlier in his address, the Community Manager, of Remotebase, Mr. Aima Atigari, said his organization is committed to matching more software engineers from Nigeria and Africa with global opportunities that improve their economic situations and careers through remote work programs and initiatives like the mini hackathon.
He paid glowing tributes to the Science and Technology Commissioner for her ministry’s continued support in ensuring that youths in Delta are empowered through leveraging the opportunities in ICT
At the end of the exercise, Team Galaxy won the first prize of $150 for centering their solution around reducing the stress and cost of house seeking in Delta State, followed by Team Firestone whose second prize of $100 came with their solution on dealing with self-medication and emergency medical situations.
Mr. Dogun Oghenekaro also won $50 in the Coding Challenge category for writing the best 20 lines of Javascript code.
