The Delta State Government has approved several new projects to improve roads, schools, electricity, and local communities. These decisions were made during a State Executive Council (Exco) meeting held on Thursday in Asaba, led by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The projects, worth several billions of naira, are aimed at making life easier for residents and creating better opportunities for economic growth and education across the state.
Big Push for Better Roads
Speaking to journalists, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the approved road projects will cover the three senatorial districts—Delta North, Delta Central, and Delta South.
Some roads will be newly constructed, while others will be repaired. The aim is to make it easier for people to move around, do business, and connect villages with towns.
Key road projects include:
- Uzere–Asaba–Ase Road repairs
- Aboh–Akarai Road with a new 100-meter bridge over the Okiri River
- Eku–Osubi Road
- Okpanam–Ugbolu Road
- Boji-Boji Owa streets rehabilitation
- Idheze Internal Roads (Phases 1 & 2)
- Ovrode–Aradhe Road
- Torugbene Internal Roads
- New Tanker Park at Ekpan
Other communities like Okpolo-Enhwe, Ughelli, Warri, Ethiope East, Patani, Amukpe, and Mosogar will also benefit from the new or upgraded roads.
N6.7 Billion for Better Schools
The Exco also approved the release of ₦6.7 billion to access a federal grant from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). This money will be used to:
- Build and renovate public schools
- Buy new furniture and school equipment
- Train teachers
Aniagwu explained that this funding will help Delta improve primary and secondary education as part of Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda—which focuses on Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security.
Focus on Technical Skills
To empower students with technical and vocational skills, new projects were approved at:
- Omadino Technical College
- Model Technical College in Oghara-Efe
- Model Technical College in Akugbene
- Model Technical College in Irri (contract reviewed for more funding)
Facilities include new hostels, dining halls, mechanical and welding workshops, and administrative blocks.
Electricity Extension to 6 Communities
To light up more areas, the state will extend electricity and install six new transformers in Warri South LGA. The benefiting communities are:
- Orugbo
- Ode-Itsekiri
- Ajigba
- Inorin
- Usele
- Ugbodede
New Traditional Rulers Appointed
The Exco also confirmed the appointment of new traditional rulers in several communities to maintain peace and uphold cultural leadership. The new monarchs include:
- Obi Michael Isichei of Ubulu-Okiti
- Obi Cletus Ochei of Ukwu-Oba Kingdom
- Okpara-Uku Osuokpa I of Orogun Kingdom
- Obi Ikechukwu Ugboma of Issele-Azagba
- Ovie Patrick Agre of Igbide Kingdom
- Orovworere Eyareya II of Effurun-Otor Kingdom
Governor Orders Investigation Into Schools
To further improve education, the Governor has instructed the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education to assess school buildings and furniture needs. The goal is to ensure that students learn in safe and well-equipped environments.
