Asaba, November 11, 2026 – The Delta State Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), represented by the Permanent Secretary, Omamuzo Erebe (SAN), on Tuesday presented the ministry’s budget for the 2026 fiscal year before the Ministry of Economic Planning.
Speaking to journalists after the presentation, Ohwovoriole highlighted the ministry’s focus on digitalisation, improved service delivery, and accessibility of justice to the common citizen.
He explained that the state government has supported the ministry’s efforts to make laws and legal information freely accessible on the government’s website. “The laws of Delta State are now free of charge. Many services that used to require payment are now accessible to the public at no cost,” he said.
The Commissioner also discussed the ministry’s virtual court hearing system, which has already been implemented to ensure faster and smoother case management. “If a person is guilty of an offence, justice should be delivered promptly. Cases that previously dragged on for years can now be resolved efficiently,” he noted.
Addressing the ongoing drafting of new bills, Ohwovoriole confirmed that some legislation is being processed and will be forwarded as executive bills in due course. He assured that the delay is part of the standard legislative process and emphasised the administration’s commitment to legal reforms.
On the ministry’s performance in 2025, Ohwovoriole said significant strides have been made, particularly in capacity building for staff. Over the year, the ministry has conducted more than 20 training sessions to enhance the skills of its personnel. He also highlighted that all civil servants in the ministry are paid promptly for work performed or court travels, a marked improvement from previous years.
“Encouraging and compensating civil servants is crucial. Today, no employee in the Ministry of Justice can complain of unpaid work or travel allowances. We have taken great steps to ensure fairness and efficiency,” he added.
The Commissioner concluded by stressing the ministry’s commitment to better, faster, and more accessible justice delivery in Delta State, aligning with the broader objectives of the government’s development agenda.
