Delta Speaker Hails Emergence of Prof Azinge as 14th Asagba of Asaba

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has extended his congratulations to Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, on his selection as the 14th Asagba of Asaba. The announcement of Prof. Azinge’s new role came over the weekend following a peaceful selection process.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Rt. Hon. Guwor also congratulated the people of Asaba for their role in ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition. He highlighted the significance of Prof. Azinge’s appointment, describing it as the beginning of a new era of growth, development, and cultural rejuvenation for the Asaba community.

Prof. Azinge, a distinguished legal scholar and former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, was praised by the Speaker for his contributions to the legal field and his deep connection to the Asaba kingdom. Rt. Hon. Guwor, on behalf of himself, the Principal Officers, Members, and Management of the Delta State House of Assembly, pledged full legislative support and partnership in anticipation of Prof. Azinge’s coronation.

“We are delighted to witness the emergence of a renowned scholar and esteemed son of Asaba as the 14th Asagba in such a peaceful manner, consistent with our traditions,” the Speaker stated. “This moment marks a new chapter for Asaba, one filled with potential for growth and cultural renewal.”

The Speaker emphasized that the Assembly would work closely with the Asagba designate to address challenges and promote opportunities, ensuring that Asaba remains a symbol of excellence in Delta State and beyond. He further highlighted Prof. Azinge’s previous roles, including his tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Benin and his current position as a judge on the Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal, as evidence of his commitment to the Asaba kingdom.

Rt. Hon. Guwor called on the people of Asaba and residents of the capital city to rally behind Prof. Azinge, acknowledging that the responsibilities ahead are significant and require the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
