Delta Signs Deal to Help Convert Cars to CNG

Delta State has teamed up with a company called NIPCO Gas Limited to help people change their cars from using petrol to using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This special type of fuel is cheaper and better for the environment.

On Thursday, important government officials from Delta State signed an agreement with NIPCO in Asaba. The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, and the Attorney-General, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, signed for the state, while Mr. Sanjay Tarat signed for NIPCO.

Why is this important?

Dr. Emu said that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori wants to make life easier for people by giving them a place where they can switch their petrol cars to CNG-powered ones. The state gave NIPCO a big piece of land (3,000 square meters) in Asaba to start the project.

He also warned NIPCO that they must do a good job and follow the plan properly. If they don’t, the state might cancel the agreement. He reminded them that the governor cares a lot about quality work and making sure things happen on time.

Where will the project start?

After signing the agreement, the officials went to see the project site, which is located on Summit Road, near Inter Bau Roundabout in Asaba. The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Agofure, explained that using CNG is much cheaper than using petrol, and he encouraged people to switch to it.

What happens next?

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, explained that before bringing in CNG-powered buses, the state first needed to set up places where they can be refueled. The project will start in Asaba, but later, it will expand to Warri and other big towns in Delta State.

Once more cars and buses use CNG instead of petrol, transportation costs should go down, making it cheaper for people to travel.

What does NIPCO say?

The Chief Operating Officer of NIPCO, Mr. Sanjay Tarat, thanked Governor Oborevwori and his team for giving them the land to start the project. He promised that they would finish setting up the CNG center within six months or even earlier.

He also said that Delta State is the first in Nigeria to provide such a space for this kind of project, and they plan to build more CNG stations in the future.

This project is an exciting step forward for Delta State, helping people save money and protect the environment at the same time!
