Asaba, January 7, 2026, the Delta State Police Command says it has recorded major breakthroughs against kidnapping, illegal arms trafficking, and drug-related crimes across the state, following intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of suspects, recovery of firearms and ammunition, and disruption of criminal networks, according to the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola.
Speaking during a press briefing in Asaba, CP Aina Adesola said the successes were recorded since he assumed office as the 23rd Commissioner of Police in Delta State, through intelligence-driven operations by the CP Special Assignment Team, CP-SAT, and other tactical units.
Arrest of an Inter-State Kidnapper and Recovery of Arms
The police arrested a suspected notorious inter-state kidnapper and armed robber, Abubakar Mohammed, on December 29, 2025, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The suspect was linked to kidnapping operations in Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States.
He led operatives to a bush near Tobia Village, Amasoma area, Bayelsa State, where arms were recovered.
Items recovered include one AK-47 rifle, seventy-six rounds of live ammunition, and two AK-47 magazines,
Further investigation led to another arms dump at Uyamuge Forest, along the Ughelli-Warri axis, on January 2, 2026.
Recovered items include one K-2 rifle, one pump-action gun, forty-nine rounds of live ammunition, thirty-two cartridges, and three magazines.
The suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
Suspected Kidnapper Killed During Gun Battle
On January 6, 2026, police operatives stormed Ohoror community along Ughelli-Patani Road after receiving intelligence.
The suspects opened fire on the police, leading to a gun duel.
One suspect was shot and seriously injured.
Recovered from the scene were one K-2 rifle, two locally made guns, and live ammunition,
The injured suspect was taken to the hospital and later confirmed dead.
A manhunt is ongoing for other fleeing suspects.
Arrest of Gun Runners in Ughelli
On January 3, 2026, at about 7:15pm, CP-SAT operatives carried out a sting operation at Ovieta Street, Ughelli.
Three suspects were arrested: Areuro Oke, 38 years, the buyer; Onos Echabor, 47 years, the middleman; and Akpofure Emmanuel, 45 years.
All suspects are residents of Ughelli North and Ughelli South Local Government Areas.
Recovered items include one pump-action gun and ₦280,000 cash, believed to be part payment for the illegal arms deal.

Arrest of Drug Dealers in Sapele and Warri
On January 3 and 5, 2026, operatives of the Quick Response Squad raided drug black spots in Sapele and Warri.
The locations include New Road by Ewereto Junction, Sapele, and Agofure Park, Effurun Roundabout, and Warri.
Suspects arrested include Bemigho Omoghomi, 28 years, Onoriode Samuel, 46 years, and two others.
Large quantities of illicit drugs were recovered.
Suspects are in custody, and the investigation continues.
Raid of a Drug Dealer’s Shop in Effurun
Operatives of Area Command Effurun raided a shop along Sapele-Warri Road.
The suspect, Chioma Ada Ifuwe Wanogho, was arrested,
Recovered items include forty-five wraps of weeds suspected to be loud and SK, and a bag of dried weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect has been in the drug business for about four years,
Investigation is ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police reassured residents of Delta State of the command’s commitment to fighting crime.
He urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police.
He also advised parents to monitor and caution their children against criminal activities.
CP Aina Adesola warned that all forms of criminality will be met with decisive and lawful action.
