Delta Govt to revoke certificate for unused land within Asaba

The Delta State Government has announced its plans to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy on any land within the proposed Asaba Industrial Estate that has not been used for the purposes for which it was given.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this on Tuesday, April 19, while briefing journalists about some of the key decisions that were reached at the State Executive Council meeting held at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Asaba, which was presided over the Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

According to the Commissioner while explaining some of the key decisions reached at the meeting, said, the approval of the status on the Asaba Industrial Estate was given support by the state exco, adding that, the exco was meant to examine the number of lands that was allocated previously to industrialists.

The Commissioner said the essence of the status is to ensure that the declarations level in line with the government’s intention in having a functional industrial estate.

Describes the attitude of those who might have decided to deploy some of the land given to them to other uses, Mr. Aniagwu, stated that, now they will have to use it for the proper purpose for which the land was given.

He said, “Such people (allottees) would have to come forward for revalidation, restating that those who had decided not to do anything at all on the land allotted them would have their C of O revoked by the state government.”

While still speaking, the Information Commissioner also said the Owa-Oyibu Sports Complex was approved for rehabilitation and some other works because of decay.

The Commissioner also explained how the road leading to the new Federal Road Safety Corps Training School in Owa-Alero, Ika North East Local Government Area of the state was also approved for total reconstruction and tarring in order to aid more access.

Other roads approved by the exco, according to the Commissioner, were Dorathy Street in Boji-Boji; Mbiri township road; internal roads in Kunukoma community in Warri South West as well as Akugbene main township roads.

Also approved by the exco according to the Aniagwu were the construction of community roads in Mosogar in Ethiope West, construction of some roads in Ughelli town, Bomadi roads and Ojobo/Torogbene Road in Burutu Local Government Area.

Mr. Aniagwu also added how the reconstruction of the Asaba Abattoir to a modern status was approved by the exco, stressing that the governor had directed the Ministry of Agriculture to synergise with council chairmen to ascertain the state of abattoirs across the state.

Mainwhile, Mr. Aniagwu revealed that the sum of 250 million naira was approved for the 2021 cassva development programme to be anchored by the Ministry of Agriculture, pointing out that it was aimed at enhancing cassava production in the state.

He said, “To enhance insurance on the roads especially for commercial transport passengers, the passenger welfare scheme was approved.”

He revealed that the governor also directed the health commissioner, Dr. Mordi Ononye to visit all government hospitals across the state to ascertain the state of facilities and personnel with a view to upgrade healthcare facilities when necessary.

Mr. Aniagwu also mentioned the approval for the amendment of the succession of Odion Ologbo of Ibrede kingdom in Ndokwa East was given by the exco, emphasising that from the approval, the heir apparent must be a graduate and first male son.

He said the approvals on road projects cuts across the state as part of measure to provide equitable amenities to residents in both coastal communities and upland areas, even as he sued for the support of all in building a new Delta.

Mr. Aniagwu revealed that the sustenance of curfew in the state at night was not only to curtail COVID-19 but an intentional effort to examine insecurity.

However the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, while responding to some questions at the briefing,
charged journalists to do more of investigative reportage and not fiction so as not to run foul of the ethics of the journalism profession.
